Learning languages by living them.
Behind the languages I work in are years of study, cultural immersion and professional experience in different countries.
English · native language
Originally from Colorado, I am a native English speaker and have taught the language across ages and professional settings. My TQUK Level 5 TEFL qualification (168 hours) complements that teaching experience.
Spanish · academic study and immersion
I studied Spanish for six years during middle and high school and spent time in language immersion in Mexico. I then completed five years at the University of Colorado Boulder, earning a B.A. in Spanish for the Professions alongside International Affairs. A further two years of immersion and professional experience across Spain, Panama and Uruguay deepened my fluency.
Portuguese · self-directed learning and immersion
I began learning Portuguese independently through courses, educational resources and language-learning apps. I followed that with two months of immersion in Portugal and four months in Brazil, studying the language while teaching English.
French · university immersion
I completed a full academic year of intensive, full-time French-language immersion at Université Clermont Auvergne through the University Diploma in French Studies (DUEF): B1 in the first semester, followed by B2 beginning in February. Living and working in France has continued to build on that foundation.
